Huvadhoo Aid conducted a Workshop on Promoting Reproductive Health and Rights and Positive Peer Education for Adolescents and Youth. The programme was conducted under “Strengthening the Public Response to Combatting Drug Abuse in the South Huvadhoo Atoll project” and “ Promoting Reproductive Health and Rights” The projects were funded by UNODC and UNFPA. The programme was held at Heducare Preschool on 23 December 2012, and youth and adolescents participated in the programme. The programme focused on Human Rights, Reproductive Health and Rights, gender, adolescent development and sexuality, family planning, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, drug abuse and other life skills. Contents of presentations were designed in accordance with the age groups of the participants
The programme aimed to promote and understand the reproductive health and rights among adolescents and teach them the techniques to face their peers. The participants were given the opportunity to develop their own ideas on how to deal with issues, they developed role plays based on these and performed these for the rest of the group. Leaflets and other useful documents were given to participants for their further understanding of these issues. The programme seems to be very vital for this age group.
