Huvadhoo Aid conducted a workshop on ‘’empowering youth Human rights NGOs’’ in collaboration with Maldives NGO Federation and Huvadhoo Association for National Development, funded by UNDP, UNPA and Human Right Commission of the Maldives. This was held in Thinadhoo from 12th September to 15th September 2012.
Several civil society organizations within the South Huvadhoo atoll participated in the workshop. There were a number of areas that unfolded during the workshop such as the role of civil society organizations within a democratic society, gender equality, the empowerment of women, Reproductive health, family planning, human rights and role of civil society in promoting human rights, reproductive rights and helath.
Since one of the most challenging problems faced to the civil society organizations is the lack funding and capacity to raise funding for its programs one of the main components of the workshops is project cycle management. The participants have gained knowledge in writing proposals and working with donors in order to be able to generate more funds for their NGO’s in future.
The workshop sessions were held in an interactive environment so that participants could address and openly discuss their issues. At the end of the workshop participants were divided in to two groups and were given two different topics to write a proposal and present it. Each group developed a project that they aim to implement within their local community.
