Huvadhoo Aid had conducted the first awareness session under the Strengthening public response to combat drugs in South Huvadhoo Atoll project. The session held at HAD seminar room focused on increasing the awareness on the drug abuse situation in the Maldives, commonly used drugs and their effects. In addition the health effects of drug abuse, effects to the family, effects to the financial stability and effects to the community were covered.
The session was targeted to the parents of grade 9 & 10 students and the school leavers of 2010. The session was facilitated by Huvadhoo Aid’s Assistant Executive Director Mr. Ahmed Ameez who had been trained to conduct the project. This project is funded by UNODC and two members from Huvadhoo Aid had been trained to conduct this project in the special training workshop conducted in Chennai, India earlier this year in January. Under the project more awareness sessions will be conducted to various community groups, students of various islands of South Huvadhoo Atoll.
