Huvadhoo Aid’s Director Programme Development Mr. Hussain Fayaz met the high commissioner for Bangladesh Mr. Ahmed Sareer. The meeting was held at Maldives high commission in Bangladesh. Hussain Fayaz was warmly welcomed by Mr. Ahmed Sareer and his wife. The talks mainly highlighted the role of civil society participation in the development of the nation and the works done by the high commission.
In the meeting Hussain Fayaz emphasized that apart from the government funded development projects, civil society could also implement development projects with the assistance from donor agencies. He also asked the high commissioner about the assistance which the high commission could render in securing funds for the development projects. The high commissioner noted that even though Bangladesh is not country regarded as a funding country, the civil society movement in Bangladesh is remarkable. He also urged the significance of improving NGO networking with Bangladesh NGOs which could in turn lend a hand in securing funding from the donor agencies. He also assured that the high commission would give full co-operation and assistance in strengthening the NGOs networking. He stated the need for adopting the professionalism and skills of mobilization of people in Bangladesh NGOs in the NGOs in Maldives and empower more people to work in the civil society.
