{"id":985,"date":"2010-10-12T17:58:10","date_gmt":"2010-10-12T17:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/huvadhooaid.org\/?p=985"},"modified":"2010-10-12T17:58:10","modified_gmt":"2010-10-12T17:58:10","slug":"huvadhoo-aid-participated-in-workshop-on-consolidating-democracy-and-human-rights-through-empowerment-of-civil-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/huvadhooaid.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/12\/huvadhoo-aid-participated-in-workshop-on-consolidating-democracy-and-human-rights-through-empowerment-of-civil-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Huvadhoo Aid participated in workshop on Consolidating Democracy and Human Rights through Empowerment of Civil Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/hadmaldives.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/10\/sdc12931.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-986\" title=\"VLUU L200  \/ Samsung L200\" src=\"http:\/\/hadmaldives.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/10\/sdc12931.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a>Two members from Huvadhoo Aid participated in three day training workshop titled \u201cConsolidating Democracy and Human Rights through Empowerment of Civil Society\u201d from the 27th to the 29th of September, conducted by \u00a0Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) in collaboration with the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) .<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;\">At the opening ceremony, two publications by MDN; the second edition of \u201cAsaasee Hagguthakaai Minivankan\u201d (\u201cBasic Rights and Freedoms\u201d) and the 2010 Maldives report to the Asian NGOs Network on National Human Rights Institutions (ANNI) entitled \u2018Needing to Scale the Communication Barrier\u2019 was launched by the UN\u2019s Special Advisor on Social Cohesion and Governance Mr. Ferdinand Von Habsburg.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;\">The participants of the workshop were provided with an overview of the national mechanism on democracy and human rights including the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) as well as the UN Mechanism and their role in defending democracy and human rights. The participants also took part in developing a strategy to contribute in consolidation of democracy and human rights in the Maldives. The interactive training drew out numerous issues of concern to those working in the human rights field in the Maldives and provided an opportunity for participants to share their thoughts on how challenges could be overcome and to also share success stories from the field.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Times New Roman;\">The workshop was attended by MDNs atoll based Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), local Human Rights NGOs, Staff from the Police Integrity Commission and staff from the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two members from Huvadhoo Aid participated in three day training workshop titled \u201cConsolidating Democracy and Human Rights through Empowerment of Civil Society\u201d from the 27th to the 29th of September, conducted by \u00a0Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) in collaboration with the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) .
